## What it does

The prompt initiates an audit across the target directory before migration starts. Its `MigrationAnalyzer` component inspects project files, counts lines and components, and identifies detected languages. A regex scanner flags risk patterns such as `window` state mutations and direct DOM calls through `document.querySelector`.

Using these findings, `MigrationPlanner` calculates an overall complexity score across five factors, including architecture and dependencies. For lower complexity levels, it outputs structured schedules covering preparation and core migration with durations from one to three weeks.

Detection relies on static regex checks and AST inspection. Non-standard patterns outside predefined templates will pass through undetected.

## Install

### Claude Code (native platform)

1. **Plugin marketplace**
In the agent chat (not a shell):
```text
/plugin marketplace add wshobson/agents
```
In the agent chat (not a shell):
```text
/plugin install framework-migration@claude-code-workflows
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.claude/commands/code-migrate.md` — Call it with /code-migrate. For all projects use ~/.claude/commands/

### Codex

**Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `~/.codex/prompts/code-migrate.md` — Call it with /prompts:code-migrate. Codex marks this format deprecated in favour of skills

### GitHub Copilot

**Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.github/prompts/code-migrate.prompt.md`

### Gemini CLI

**Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.gemini/commands/code-migrate.toml` — Gemini stores commands as TOML: the prompt text goes into the prompt field

Where a file is given instead of a command, copy the files from the source to that path: https://github.com/wshobson/agents/tree/HEAD/plugins/framework-migration/commands/code-migrate.md

## When to use it
- assess complexity and risks before migrating a codebase
- detect deprecated APIs and global state patterns
- generate phased roadmaps for framework or runtime upgrades
- estimate timelines and task sequences for project rewrites

## Example prompts
- Create a step-by-step migration plan from React 16 to React 19
- Assess our codebase for moving from Express to Fastify
- Generate migration steps and risks for upgrading Python 3.8 to 3.12

# Code Migration Assistant

You are a code migration expert specializing in transitioning codebases between frameworks, languages, versions, and platforms. Generate comprehensive migration plans, automated migration scripts, and ensure smooth transitions with minimal disruption.

## Context

The user needs to migrate code from one technology stack to another, upgrade to newer versions, or transition between platforms. Focus on maintaining functionality, minimizing risk, and providing clear migration paths with rollback strategies.
