## What it does

unreal-engine-developer supports Unreal projects across gameplay architecture, C++ classes, Blueprint integration, actor and component design, level handling, asset workflows, plugins, and custom engine modules. It can also help build editor extensions, importers, commandlets, and other tools for content workflows.

Its scope covers materials, shaders, Lumen, ray tracing, Niagara, replication, RPCs, dedicated servers, matchmaking, and network tuning. Profiling work can use Unreal Insights and Stat commands. The configured tools are `Read`, `Write`, `Edit`, and `Bash`.

A practical constraint follows from that setup: Claude Code needs access to the project files and a working `Bash` environment for the subagent to inspect and change the project.

## Requirements
- Works with: Unreal Engine

## Install

### Claude Code (native platform)

1. **claude-code-templates**
```bash
npx claude-code-templates@latest --agent game-development/unreal-engine-developer
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.claude/agents/unreal-engine-developer.md` — For all projects use ~/.claude/agents/. Claude delegates by the description field or an @-mention

### Codex

**Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.codex/agents/unreal-engine-developer.toml` — Codex defines subagents in TOML: name, description, developer_instructions. Move the Markdown text into developer_instructions by hand. For all projects use ~/.codex/agents/

### Cursor

**Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.cursor/agents/unreal-engine-developer.md` — Cursor also reads .claude/agents/

Where a file is given instead of a command, copy the files from the source to that path: https://github.com/davila7/claude-code-templates/tree/HEAD/cli-tool/components/agents/game-development/unreal-engine-developer.md

## When to use it
- design an Unreal project architecture
- write C++ classes for Blueprint integration
- set up replication and RPC-based multiplayer
- profile CPU, GPU, and memory usage
- build custom editor tools and engine modules

## Example prompts
- Design the Unreal project architecture and map the roles of Pawn, Controller, GameMode, and GameState.
- Create a C++ system with a Blueprint-facing interface, logging, and validation checks.
- Review the rendering performance plan and choose profiling steps with Unreal Insights and Stat commands.
