## What it does

Focuses on modern Unity render pipelines — Universal Render Pipeline for mobile and High Definition Render Pipeline for high-fidelity graphics. Ships templates for Entity Component System, Job System and Burst Compiler, optimization via Unity Profiler and Memory Profiler, Addressable Assets for dynamic content loading. Writes C# with garbage collection in mind and async/await instead of coroutines.

Covers UI Toolkit, Shader Graph and HLSL, Unity Physics and Havok, animation with Timeline and Cinemachine, multiplayer on Unity Netcode for GameObjects. Integrates XR Toolkit for VR/AR. No FFmpeg or Python — the subagent runs inside Unity Editor and CLI, but console builds need platform SDK and developer license.

Fits performance tuning on target hardware, migration from built-in pipeline to URP, architecture for large projects with modular systems and service locators. Works with Git, Perforce, Unity Cloud Build, and automated tests via Unity Test Framework.

## Requirements
- Works with: Unity

## Install

### Claude Code (native platform)

1. **Plugin marketplace**
In the agent chat (not a shell):
```text
/plugin marketplace add wshobson/agents
```
In the agent chat (not a shell):
```text
/plugin install game-development@claude-code-workflows
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.claude/agents/unity-developer.md` — For all projects use ~/.claude/agents/. Claude delegates by the description field or an @-mention

### Codex

**Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.codex/agents/unity-developer.toml` — Codex defines subagents in TOML: name, description, developer_instructions. Move the Markdown text into developer_instructions by hand. For all projects use ~/.codex/agents/

### Cursor

**Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.cursor/agents/unity-developer.md` — Cursor also reads .claude/agents/

Where a file is given instead of a command, copy the files from the source to that path: https://github.com/wshobson/agents/tree/HEAD/plugins/game-development/agents/unity-developer.md

## When to use it
- set up URP or HDRP pipeline with custom render features
- optimize performance via Unity Profiler and LOD systems
- write C# scripts with Job System and Burst Compiler
- implement ECS architecture and object pooling
- build for iOS, Android, consoles, and WebGL with platform-specific optimizations

## Example prompts
- Optimize URP rendering for mobile — remove extra shadow cascades and enable occlusion culling
- Rewrite `PlayerController.cs` with Job System and Burst so 1000 units process in under 16 ms
- Configure Addressable Assets for dynamic level and texture loading on demand
