## What it does

The subagent examines waveform patterns and silence to suggest where each segment should begin and end. For video, it maps timestamps to frame numbers using the frame rate, and provides fade lengths and silence padding. Its checks aim to keep cuts away from the middle of spoken words.

Its workflow uses `ffprobe` to inspect media details and `ffmpeg` to create waveform images, detect silence, and inspect frames. The result is JSON with segment times, frame numbers, boundary types, and confidence scores. When speech runs continuously, it looks for less disruptive points between sentences; noisy recordings call for adjusted silence thresholds. The workflow relies on `ffmpeg` and `ffprobe`.

## Install

### Claude Code (native platform)

1. **claude-code-templates**
```bash
npx claude-code-templates@latest --agent ffmpeg-clip-team/timestamp-precision-specialist
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.claude/agents/timestamp-precision-specialist.md` — For all projects use ~/.claude/agents/. Claude delegates by the description field or an @-mention

### Codex

**Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.codex/agents/timestamp-precision-specialist.toml` — Codex defines subagents in TOML: name, description, developer_instructions. Move the Markdown text into developer_instructions by hand. For all projects use ~/.codex/agents/

### Cursor

**Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.cursor/agents/timestamp-precision-specialist.md` — Cursor also reads .claude/agents/

## When to use it
- locate pauses for clean speech edits
- check whether a cut interrupts a word
- map video timestamps to frame numbers
- set fade lengths and silence padding

## Example prompts
- Find speech boundaries and pauses in `interview.mp4`, then return edit points as JSON.
- Inspect `podcast.wav` and suggest cuts that preserve complete words.
- Calculate timestamps and frame numbers for each segment in `episode.mp4`.
