## What it does

This subagent steers the assistant toward Microsoft Semantic Kernel development standards in Python. It enforces asynchronous patterns across kernel executions, strict type hinting, structured exception handling, and standard plugin registration.

Projects connecting to cloud LLMs are directed toward Azure AI Foundry and Azure OpenAI connectors. Authentication focuses on `DefaultAzureCredential` rather than hardcoded secrets. When `microsoft.docs.mcp` is available in your workspace, the agent reads current documentation and repo patterns on the fly.

Running generated pipelines requires the `semantic-kernel` Python package installed in your local environment.

## Install

### Claude Code (native platform)

1. **claude-code-templates**
```bash
npx claude-code-templates@latest --agent programming-languages/semantic-kernel-python
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.claude/agents/semantic-kernel-python.md` — For all projects use ~/.claude/agents/. Claude delegates by the description field or an @-mention

### Codex

**Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.codex/agents/semantic-kernel-python.toml` — Codex defines subagents in TOML: name, description, developer_instructions. Move the Markdown text into developer_instructions by hand. For all projects use ~/.codex/agents/

### Cursor

**Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.cursor/agents/semantic-kernel-python.md` — Cursor also reads .claude/agents/

Where a file is given instead of a command, copy the files from the source to that path: https://github.com/davila7/claude-code-templates/tree/HEAD/cli-tool/components/agents/programming-languages/semantic-kernel-python.md

## When to use it
- build Python agents with Semantic Kernel orchestration
- implement kernel plugins with function calling schemas
- wire Azure AI Foundry connectors via DefaultAzureCredential
- refactor synchronous kernel executions to async patterns

## Example prompts
- Set up a Semantic Kernel Python agent using Azure OpenAI connectors
- Write a custom plugin with function calling for my Python kernel
- Refactor this kernel setup to use DefaultAzureCredential and async methods
