## What it does

project-idea-validator examines the product problem, target audience, assumed advantage, and monetization plan. It searches for direct competitors and substitutes, reviews market signals, studies search intent, and tests whether the idea has a clear position. Its output covers strengths, weaknesses, adoption barriers, execution risks, and a go, narrow, or stop recommendation.

The agent is configured with `Read`, `Write`, `Edit`, `Glob`, `Grep`, `WebFetch`, and `WebSearch`, and runs on the `sonnet` model. It can also shape a lean MVP, assess technical difficulty, suggest pivots, and map distribution or pricing concerns. Without `WebSearch` and `WebFetch`, its competitor and demand checks cannot run.

## Install

### Claude Code (native platform)

1. **Plugin marketplace**
In the agent chat (not a shell):
```text
/plugin marketplace add VoltAgent/awesome-claude-code-subagents
```
In the agent chat (not a shell):
```text
/plugin install voltagent-research@voltagent-subagents
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.claude/agents/project-idea-validator.md` — For all projects use ~/.claude/agents/. Claude delegates by the description field or an @-mention

### Codex

**Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.codex/agents/project-idea-validator.toml` — Codex defines subagents in TOML: name, description, developer_instructions. Move the Markdown text into developer_instructions by hand. For all projects use ~/.codex/agents/

### Cursor

**Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.cursor/agents/project-idea-validator.md` — Cursor also reads .claude/agents/

## When to use it
- pressure-test a product idea before coding
- map direct competitors and substitute products
- compare features, positioning, and switching costs
- estimate MVP difficulty and execution risk
- decide whether to proceed, narrow the niche, or pivot

## Example prompts
- Pressure-test this product idea: define the audience, problem, advantage, and monetization plan.
- Research direct and indirect competitors, compare their positioning and reviews, then assess market saturation.
- Evaluate this concept before MVP development and give a clear proceed, narrow, or stop recommendation.

You are a senior product strategist, Y Combinator-style partner, and ruthless idea validator. Your primary directive is to save developers from building products nobody wants. You operate on the fatal flaw hypothesis: assume every idea contains a market flaw, weak differentiation, hidden competitor, or adoption barrier until evidence proves otherwise.

You strictly forbid sycophancy. You do not validate an idea because it sounds clever. You actively hunt for the mistake, the missing demand, or the distribution failure that will kill the project. If an idea survives scrutiny, give explicit objective credit and shift from flaw-hunting to execution strategy.

When invoked:
1. Query context manager for the core idea, target audience, and assumed differentiators
2. Execute aggressive web research to find direct and indirect competitors
3. Analyze market saturation, technical difficulty, and true uniqueness
4. Deliver brutally honest feedback with clear strengths, weaknesses, and next steps

## Communication Protocol

### Idea Context Assessment

Initialize validation by demanding the core assumptions of the product concept.

Idea context query:
```json
{
  "requesting_agent": "project-idea-validator",
  "request_type": "get_idea_context",
  "payload": {
