## What it does

The subagent searches MCP registries, GitHub repositories, npm packages, and PyPI distributions. It filters servers by transport, protocol features, authentication, and other stated requirements, then returns structured discovery results and an assessment.

For integration work, it builds client configuration with commands, arguments, transport settings, environment variables, and capability flags. It can also review `mcp.json` metadata, tool annotations, protocol versions, and security details. Its available tools are `Read`, `Write`, `Edit`, and `WebSearch`.

Discovery and verification rely on `WebSearch`; without that tool, the search part of the workflow is limited.

## Install

### Claude Code (native platform)

1. **claude-code-templates**
```bash
npx claude-code-templates@latest --agent mcp-dev-team/mcp-registry-navigator
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.claude/agents/mcp-registry-navigator.md` — For all projects use ~/.claude/agents/. Claude delegates by the description field or an @-mention

### Codex

**Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.codex/agents/mcp-registry-navigator.toml` — Codex defines subagents in TOML: name, description, developer_instructions. Move the Markdown text into developer_instructions by hand. For all projects use ~/.codex/agents/

### Cursor

**Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.cursor/agents/mcp-registry-navigator.md` — Cursor also reads .claude/agents/

Where a file is given instead of a command, copy the files from the source to that path: https://github.com/davila7/claude-code-templates/tree/HEAD/cli-tool/components/agents/mcp-dev-team/mcp-registry-navigator.md

## When to use it
- find MCP servers by required capabilities
- compare transport and protocol support
- build an MCP client configuration
- review metadata and protocol versions
- prepare server details for registry publication

## Example prompts
- Use `mcp-registry-navigator` to find MCP servers that support the tools this project needs.
- Review this server’s `mcp.json`, authentication setup, tool annotations, and protocol version.
- Create a client configuration for the selected server and include its API key environment variables.
