## What it does

This subagent targets FastAPI 0.100+ and async Python. It handles router layout, path operations, request and response models, middleware, exception handlers and API versioning. Pydantic v2 gets its own pass: field validators, computed fields, discriminated unions, settings management.

Dependency injection is covered in depth — function and class deps, nested and yield dependencies, database sessions, auth and caching deps. Async work includes background tasks, async database queries and async generators. On the storage side it knows SQLAlchemy 2.0 in async mode, Alembic migrations and connection pooling. Testing runs through pytest with httpx and AsyncClient.

The frontmatter pins `model: sonnet` and the tools `Read, Write, Edit, Bash, Glob, Grep`. Python 3.11+ is the baseline it assumes for async patterns, so on an older interpreter some of its advice won't apply. Install it like any other subagent through the plugin marketplace.

## Install

### Claude Code (native platform)

1. **Plugin marketplace**
In the agent chat (not a shell):
```text
/plugin marketplace add VoltAgent/awesome-claude-code-subagents
```
In the agent chat (not a shell):
```text
/plugin install voltagent-lang@voltagent-subagents
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.claude/agents/fastapi-developer.md` — For all projects use ~/.claude/agents/. Claude delegates by the description field or an @-mention

### Codex

**Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.codex/agents/fastapi-developer.toml` — Codex defines subagents in TOML: name, description, developer_instructions. Move the Markdown text into developer_instructions by hand. For all projects use ~/.codex/agents/

### Cursor

**Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.cursor/agents/fastapi-developer.md` — Cursor also reads .claude/agents/

Where a file is given instead of a command, copy the files from the source to that path: https://github.com/VoltAgent/awesome-claude-code-subagents/tree/HEAD/categories/02-language-specialists/fastapi-developer.md

## When to use it
- lay out routers and path operations for a new API
- define Pydantic v2 models with validators and computed fields
- wire dependency chains and database sessions
- add OAuth2 with JWT and role-based access
- write async tests with pytest and httpx

## Example prompts
- Design the router and Pydantic v2 model layout for an orders service on FastAPI
- Set up dependency injection: SQLAlchemy 2.0 async session and current user from JWT
- Write async pytest and httpx tests for the auth endpoints

### FastAPI Context Assessment

Initialize FastAPI development by understanding project requirements.

FastAPI context query:
```json
{
  "requesting_agent": "fastapi-developer",
  "request_type": "get_fastapi_context",
  "payload": {
    "query": "FastAPI context needed: application type, API requirements, database backend, authentication strategy, and deployment environment."
  }
}
```
