## What it does

\`documentation-expert` handles technical documentation for software projects. It can draft or revise README, CONTRIBUTING, and USAGE files, document new features and APIs, write tutorials and user guides, and turn code comments into documentation.

Its available tools are `Read`, `Write`, `Edit`, `Glob`, `Grep`, `WebFetch`, and `WebSearch`. The workflow uses the Diátaxis model to distinguish tutorials, how-to guides, reference material, and explanations. It also treats docs like code by checking links, keeping docs with the code, and reviewing documentation changes alongside source changes.

The subagent has no `Bash`, so it cannot run Vale, alex, or markdownlint itself. Code behavior is handed off to `code-reviewer` or `architect-reviewer`, while Docusaurus configuration work belongs with `docusaurus-expert`.

## Install

### Claude Code (native platform)

1. **claude-code-templates**
```bash
npx claude-code-templates@latest --agent expert-advisors/documentation-expert
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.claude/agents/documentation-expert.md` — For all projects use ~/.claude/agents/. Claude delegates by the description field or an @-mention

### Codex

**Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.codex/agents/documentation-expert.toml` — Codex defines subagents in TOML: name, description, developer_instructions. Move the Markdown text into developer_instructions by hand. For all projects use ~/.codex/agents/

### Cursor

**Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.cursor/agents/documentation-expert.md` — Cursor also reads .claude/agents/

Where a file is given instead of a command, copy the files from the source to that path: https://github.com/davila7/claude-code-templates/tree/HEAD/cli-tool/components/agents/expert-advisors/documentation-expert.md
