# codebase-cleanup-test-automator

A testing subagent that runs the TDD loop, writes tests and wires them into CI. Useful when coverage is thin or failures keep repeating.

## What it does

This subagent runs on `sonnet` and handles the testing side of a task: it writes a failing test before the implementation, verifies the test actually fails, suggests the smallest change to make it pass, and guards against regressions during refactoring. The practices it carries are red-green-refactor, property-based tests, BDD specs, Chicago School and London School approaches, and test doubles for isolation.

Framework coverage is broad: Playwright and Selenium for browsers, Appium, XCUITest and Espresso for mobile, Postman, Newman, REST Assured and Karate for APIs, K6, JMeter and Gatling for load, Pact for contracts, axe-core and Lighthouse for accessibility. Low-code platforms show up too — Testsigma, Testim, Applitools, Mabl — along with BrowserStack and Sauce Labs, self-healing locators and generated test data.

Process work is part of it: Jenkins, GitLab CI and GitHub Actions pipelines, parallel runs, test selection based on code changes, reports in Allure, ExtentReports and TestRail, and metrics such as TDD cycle time and test growth. The description is cut off, so the remaining sections are unknown. One thing to check first: the agent file lives at `.claude/agents/test-automator.md`, and without it nothing loads.

## Requirements
- Works with: Playwright

## Install

### Claude Code (native platform)

1. **Plugin marketplace**
In the agent chat (not a shell):
```text
/plugin marketplace add wshobson/agents
```
In the agent chat (not a shell):
```text
/plugin install codebase-cleanup@claude-code-workflows
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.claude/agents/test-automator.md` — For all projects use ~/.claude/agents/. Claude delegates by the description field or an @-mention

### Codex

**Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.codex/agents/test-automator.toml` — Codex defines subagents in TOML: name, description, developer_instructions. Move the Markdown text into developer_instructions by hand. For all projects use ~/.codex/agents/

### Cursor

**Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.cursor/agents/test-automator.md` — Cursor also reads .claude/agents/

Where a file is given instead of a command, copy the files from the source to that path: https://github.com/wshobson/agents/tree/HEAD/plugins/codebase-cleanup/agents/test-automator.md

## When to use it
- write a failing test before the feature exists
- run one scenario across Chrome, Firefox and Safari
- verify an API contract between two services
- set up parallel test runs in GitHub Actions
- pull a weekly report on coverage and failures

## Example prompts
- run the TDD cycle for the discount calculation: failing test first
- set up Pact contract tests between orders and billing
- add parallel Playwright runs and an Allure report to CI
