## What it does

It runs on the sonnet model. The subagent focuses on architecting and troubleshooting networks across AWS, Azure, GCP, and OCI. It helps configure route tables, subnets, and multi-cloud peering connections.

The agent crafts setup files for load balancers like Nginx or Envoy Proxy. It also configures mTLS, zero-trust policies, and Kubernetes networking with Calico or Cilium. For diagnostic tasks, it evaluates VPC flow logs and analyzes packet captures.

Deployments are codified using Terraform or Ansible network playbooks. Resolving real connection drops still depends on feeding actual tool outputs like tcpdump into the prompt.

## Install

### Claude Code (native platform)

1. **Plugin marketplace**
In the agent chat (not a shell):
```text
/plugin marketplace add wshobson/agents
```
In the agent chat (not a shell):
```text
/plugin install cloud-infrastructure@claude-code-workflows
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.claude/agents/network-engineer.md` — For all projects use ~/.claude/agents/. Claude delegates by the description field or an @-mention

### Codex

**Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.codex/agents/network-engineer.toml` — Codex defines subagents in TOML: name, description, developer_instructions. Move the Markdown text into developer_instructions by hand. For all projects use ~/.codex/agents/

### Cursor

**Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.cursor/agents/network-engineer.md` — Cursor also reads .claude/agents/

Where a file is given instead of a command, copy the files from the source to that path: https://github.com/wshobson/agents/tree/HEAD/plugins/cloud-infrastructure/agents/network-engineer.md

## When to use it
- Establish secure multi-cloud routing and peering between AWS and Azure
- Configure mutual TLS and traffic policies inside an Istio service mesh
- Diagnose latency spikes and packet loss using VPC Flow Logs
- Write Terraform definitions for application load balancers and NAT gateways

## Example prompts
- Generate Terraform code for an AWS VPC with two public and four private subnets across two availability zones.
- Inspect this tcpdump output and VPC flow log snippet to find why traffic drops between services.
- Configure mutual TLS authentication and access policies for an Envoy ingress gateway.
