# cicd-automation-kubernetes-architect

A Kubernetes architect subagent: cluster design, GitOps pipelines, service mesh and multi-tenancy. Useful once a project outgrows a single namespace.

## What it does

The subagent runs on the `opus` model and plugs into Claude, Codex or Cursor as a separate agent. Its knowledge covers managed clusters (EKS, AKS, GKE, OKE), self-managed builds on kubeadm, kops and kubespray, plus OpenShift, Rancher and Tanzu. Ask it about cluster lifecycle work: upgrades, etcd operations, backup and restore.

GitOps gets its own block. The agent handles ArgoCD and Flux v2, progressive delivery with Argo Rollouts and Flagger, app-of-apps repository layouts and environment promotion. Secrets sit next to that: External Secrets Operator, Sealed Secrets, Vault. On security it lists Pod Security Standards, network policies, Falco, image scanning and Sigstore signing. Observability means Prometheus, Loki, Jaeger, OpenTelemetry and Grafana.

The practical half is multi-tenancy, RBAC, quotas, autoscaling through HPA, VPA, Cluster Autoscaler and KEDA, and FinOps with KubeCost, OpenCost, right-sizing and spot instances. The agent description is truncated, so the far edge of that list is not something you can verify from the text. Installing in Claude goes through the `wshobson/agents` marketplace: add it first, then install the `cicd-automation` plugin.

## Requirements
- Works with: Kubernetes

## Install

### Claude Code (native platform)

1. **Plugin marketplace**
In the agent chat (not a shell):
```text
/plugin marketplace add wshobson/agents
```
In the agent chat (not a shell):
```text
/plugin install cicd-automation@claude-code-workflows
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.claude/agents/kubernetes-architect.md` — For all projects use ~/.claude/agents/. Claude delegates by the description field or an @-mention

### Codex

**Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.codex/agents/kubernetes-architect.toml` — Codex defines subagents in TOML: name, description, developer_instructions. Move the Markdown text into developer_instructions by hand. For all projects use ~/.codex/agents/

### Cursor

**Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.cursor/agents/kubernetes-architect.md` — Cursor also reads .claude/agents/

Where a file is given instead of a command, copy the files from the source to that path: https://github.com/wshobson/agents/tree/HEAD/plugins/cicd-automation/agents/kubernetes-architect.md

## When to use it
- design a multi-tenant cluster with namespace isolation
- move deployments to GitOps with ArgoCD or Flux
- set up canary rollouts without manual traffic switches
- move secrets into External Secrets Operator instead of Git
- cut cluster spend with right-sizing and spot instances

## Example prompts
- Help me design a multi-tenant EKS cluster: namespaces, RBAC, quotas
- Migrate our deploys to ArgoCD and show the app-of-apps repo layout
- Set up canary rollouts with Argo Rollouts for the payments service
