## What it does

The subagent covers CI/CD systems such as GitHub Actions, GitLab CI/CD, Azure DevOps, and Jenkins. It can help design build and test workflows, container and dependency scans, and deployments managed through ArgoCD or Flux. Kubernetes strategies include rolling updates, blue/green releases, and canaries.

For Kubernetes, it can work through readiness checks, traffic handling, and rollback plans. GitOps tasks include repository layout and promoting configuration across environments; other areas include database schema migrations, secret handling, and pipeline security policies. Installation paths vary by platform: Claude Code uses `.claude/agents/deployment-engineer.md`, while Codex uses `.codex/agents/deployment-engineer.toml`.

## Install

### Claude Code (native platform)

1. **Plugin marketplace**
In the agent chat (not a shell):
```text
/plugin marketplace add wshobson/agents
```
In the agent chat (not a shell):
```text
/plugin install cicd-automation@claude-code-workflows
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.claude/agents/deployment-engineer.md` — For all projects use ~/.claude/agents/. Claude delegates by the description field or an @-mention

### Codex

**Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.codex/agents/deployment-engineer.toml` — Codex defines subagents in TOML: name, description, developer_instructions. Move the Markdown text into developer_instructions by hand. For all projects use ~/.codex/agents/

### Cursor

**Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.cursor/agents/deployment-engineer.md` — Cursor also reads .claude/agents/

Where a file is given instead of a command, copy the files from the source to that path: https://github.com/wshobson/agents/tree/HEAD/plugins/cicd-automation/agents/deployment-engineer.md

## When to use it
- design a CI/CD pipeline with builds and tests
- set up GitOps deployment through ArgoCD or Flux
- choose a canary or blue/green rollout for Kubernetes
- add container and dependency scanning
- plan an automatic rollback after a deployment failure

## Example prompts
- Design a CI/CD pipeline for this project with build, test, and dependency scanning stages.
- Plan a GitOps deployment for Kubernetes with ArgoCD and configuration promotion across environments.
- Review this canary rollout plan and define conditions for an automatic rollback.
