## What it does

This subagent acts as a cloud architect. It reads your requirements for scale, cost and security, picks services that fit the workload, and returns a design that handles failure. Behind it sits working knowledge of the AWS, Azure, GCP and OCI service catalogs, FinOps practice, and patterns like serverless, microservices and event-driven systems. The configured model is `opus`.

A large part of the job is Infrastructure as Code. The agent writes Terraform and OpenTofu modules, native CloudFormation, ARM/Bicep, Infrastructure Manager and Resource Manager templates, plus CDK and Pulumi. It also covers GitOps with ArgoCD, Flux and GitHub Actions, policy as code through OPA and Cloud Guard, and infrastructure tests with Terratest and Checkov. Cost estimates with optimisation options come attached.

One thing to plan for: without access to a provider console or API, the agent only works from what you describe in the prompt. Give it regions, budgets and compliance constraints up front and you will spend less time answering follow-ups. The source description is cut off, so the full list of example interactions is not reproduced here.

## Requirements
- Works with: AWS, Azure, Terraform

## Install

### Claude Code (native platform)

1. **Plugin marketplace**
In the agent chat (not a shell):
```text
/plugin marketplace add wshobson/agents
```
In the agent chat (not a shell):
```text
/plugin install cicd-automation@claude-code-workflows
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.claude/agents/cloud-architect.md` — For all projects use ~/.claude/agents/. Claude delegates by the description field or an @-mention

### Codex

**Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.codex/agents/cloud-architect.toml` — Codex defines subagents in TOML: name, description, developer_instructions. Move the Markdown text into developer_instructions by hand. For all projects use ~/.codex/agents/

### Cursor

**Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.cursor/agents/cloud-architect.md` — Cursor also reads .claude/agents/

Where a file is given instead of a command, copy the files from the source to that path: https://github.com/wshobson/agents/tree/HEAD/plugins/cicd-automation/agents/cloud-architect.md

## When to use it
- design a multi-region setup that survives an AZ failure
- compare the monthly cost of one workload on AWS and GCP
- move hand-built infrastructure into Terraform modules
- bake zero-trust access and encryption in from the start
- plan a cloud migration without vendor lock-in

## Example prompts
- Design a multi-region web app with autoscaling on AWS and include a cost estimate
- Rewrite our stack as Terraform modules and show where the money leaks
- Compare this service on AWS and GCP, then tell me what to cover with reserved instances
