## What it does

\`accessibility-expert` reviews interfaces against WCAG 2.1 and 2.2, maps findings to success criteria, and explains their user impact. It can guide fixes for ARIA markup, semantic HTML, image alternatives, forms, tables, dialogs, and custom widgets.

Its checks cover keyboard flow, focus handling, contrast, forced-colors support, reduced motion, and screen reader behavior. The guidance includes NVDA, JAWS, VoiceOver, and TalkBack, plus testing with `axe-core`, `WAVE`, `Lighthouse`, `Pa11y`, `jest-axe`, and `cypress-axe`.

Automated scans are only one part of the workflow: the agent also recommends keyboard-only checks and testing with assistive technology. In Claude Code, setup adds the marketplace, installs `ui-design@claude-code-workflows`, and places the `accessibility-expert.md` agent file.

## Install

### Claude Code (native platform)

1. **Plugin marketplace**
In the agent chat (not a shell):
```text
/plugin marketplace add wshobson/agents
```
In the agent chat (not a shell):
```text
/plugin install ui-design@claude-code-workflows
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.claude/agents/accessibility-expert.md` — For all projects use ~/.claude/agents/. Claude delegates by the description field or an @-mention

### Codex

**Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.codex/agents/accessibility-expert.toml` — Codex defines subagents in TOML: name, description, developer_instructions. Move the Markdown text into developer_instructions by hand. For all projects use ~/.codex/agents/

### Cursor

**Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.cursor/agents/accessibility-expert.md` — Cursor also reads .claude/agents/

## When to use it
- audit a component against WCAG 2.1 AA
- trace keyboard navigation and focus issues
- repair ARIA roles and widget states
- check color contrast and image alternatives
- prioritize accessibility remediation work

## Example prompts
- Audit this component against WCAG 2.1 AA and write a remediation plan.
- Make this custom dropdown work with keyboard navigation and a screen reader.
- Review the project palette for contrast problems and suggest fixes that do not rely on color alone.
